Yesterday, the Virginia Tech Hokies Baseball team took on the number 16 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacon’s which ended up being a nail-biting game. It was a slow start to the game for both teams, neither side seemed to be able to get their momentum going early on. Wake Forest was up 2-1 by the end of the first six innings of the game. Wake Forest was able to hold on to a small lead through the eighth inning.

The ninth inning was where the game really began. The inning kicked off with a pinch-hit to left center from Hokies infielder Ethan Gibson which seemed to be the spark needed to get the game going. Hunter Lutterman was up next, and he doubled to left, allowing Gibson to score and tie the game up 3-3. The Hokies just took off from there and were able to keep their heads in the game. They were able to capitalize on Wake Forest’s mistakes allowing them to seize control over the game. The Hokies persisted and went on to beat the Demon Deacons in a 6-5 victory.

This was a significant win for the Hokies, not only for the amazing comeback, but also as they came on top against a ranked divisional opponent. On the contrary, this was a big loss for Wake Forst. They were previously ranked 16th and after this loss, not only lost their ranking, but also dropped out of the top 25.
