On Wednesday, April 9, the Virginia Tech Hokies baseball team will be taking on the number 20 ranked Troy Trojans in a non-conference showdown at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

Virginia Tech baseball, now ranked number 25, has come into the spotlight after winning three straight series against ranked opponents. Most recently, the Virginia Tech Hokies beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in two of the three series games. With their game play getting more and more consistent, Virginia Tech is looking to keep its momentum going in their game in front of their home crowd.

The Troy Trojans are going into this game with a 24-9 overall record and 8-4 run in the Sunbelt Conference. They are currently tied for first in their conference. The Trojans have a very explosive offense, leading their conference in batting average, base percentage, and runs per game. Center fielder, Steven Meier has been showing out, leading the conference in runs, hit by pitches, and stolen bases, while reaching the base in 39 consecutive games.

On the mound, senior Garrett Gainous is just six strikeouts shy of having 250 for his career.

Both teams possess the offensive power to make this a high scoring, must watch game. As the season draws on, this game will be a test for both teams to see who comes out on top. Tune as the Hokies take on the Trojans on ACCX network for the 6 p.m. EDT game.
